According to the 2019 Annual Business Survey, the four sectors with the most businesses in the U.S. were (1)Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services; (2)Construction; (3)Health Care and Social Assistance; and (4) Retail Trade. Combined, these estimated 2.8 million businesses employed about 51.1 million people and had an annual payroll of approximately $2.6 trillion.
